The flock is owned by myself, Ray Birch, and I’ve bred them since January 2002.  I’ve also kept flocks of Suffolk Cross and Texel Cross sheep in the past.  I find Kerry Hills the nicest sheep to keep because they are easier to lamb, compared to the other breeds I’ve kept, and they also make good mothers to their lambs.
I start off by putting a good quality ram in with the ewes in the 3rd week in October, thus lambing starts in the last week in March, 145 days after the ram was introduced.  Last year the flock produced 27 lambs off 15 ewes, of which 16 were ewe lambs and 11 were tup lambs.  The lambs are weaned in the middle of August and the ewe lambs are sold around September/October time.  The fat lambs are ready between November and January.  I keep the smallest ewe lambs and after 18 months they are large enough to breed.
I like to keep a whether sheep that runs with the ewe lambs to give some protection from stray dogs and other predators.
